Cancerous Stem Cell Culture Medium
Researchers from the University of Granada, together with researchers from the University of Jaén and from the Andalusia Health Service have developed a new conditioned serum-free medium that favours in vitro proliferation and the preservation of the pluripotency of Cancer Stem Cells (CSCs). Furthermore, the new medium permits the maintaining of a state undifferentiated from the CSC subpopulation and, in turn, denies the survival of differentiated cells.
This invention improves on other techniques already on the market in the sense that it does not require prior manipulation of the cells and can be based on a large population at no additional cost. It also allows greater CSC enrichment (70-80% of cells enriched until 12-14 days of cultivation), greater quantity, and improves cell viability. The invention is easily scalable.
